A high quality baby monitor is an essential item when you have kids because it allows you to relax and enjoy your Me time when you finally get those kids off to bed. Without it, you may feel the urge to constantly check on them and never truly relax.
But this is your time, and you need it to recharge!
The downside is that they are also expensive. And if you have two kids (or planning on having a second) that’s double the expense…. Or is it?
There are some models of baby monitors that come with two cameras. Or better yet, come with one with the option to upgrade later if you need to.
We have looked at the best dual camera baby monitors on the market and provided detailed performance comparisons to make your buying decision easy.

Best Dual Camera Baby Monitors in Australia

- Power adapter required
Extra Functionality:
- Remote Camera Control ✔

We have the Infant Optics on top as the best baby monitor due to the superior functionality and expansion capabilities.
The main unit only comes with the one camera – which keeps your initial investment only to what is needed – you can then buy extra cameras (up to four) as needed.
The cameras are multifunctional powerhouses (which explains the price!). They provide a crystal clear view, have interchangeable optical zoom lens, provide 1x zoom so you can get right up close.
You also have remote control over the pan, tilt, and zoom controls.
If you want a wider angle lens you can buy this separately as an upgrade.
The display unit has a 3.5” color LCD screen with a retractable antenna and kickstand which makes it fairly transportable. It also has a range of 200+ metres, which is probably much bigger than your house, backyard, and probably your whole street.
If you need to go into battery mode you will get about 6 hours of juice. Double that if you are using the power saving modes that will put the unit to sleep until there is some noise from your baby to bring it back to life.
You can get the same result with the audio only mode and switch off the video altogether.
A few extra features that cement this monitor’s place at the top include room temperature monitoring on the control unit, sound-activated LED lights, and alerts for low battery and out of range.
The Infant Optics does have some limitations. We don’t think they are deal breakers, but for some parents it could be. So read carefully.
You cannot split the screen to view multiple cameras at once. But, you can set it to cycle mode so the display unit is switching between cameras at set intervals (unless there is a trigger alert).
The biggest problem for us was that they do not modify the plug for Australian use. So you will need to buy an adapter, which is very inconvenient.
But it is still a worthy top pick in our opinion.
2. Lollipop Smart Monitor – Most Portable Baby Monitor
Quick Summary:
- 1x Camera included
- Unlimited cameras supported
- No screen (mobile phone app)
- No battery
- Australian power plug
Extra Functionality:
- Remote Camera Control – NA
- Split Screen ✘
- 2 Way Talk ✔
- Night Vision/Infrared ✔
- Temperature Sensor ✔
- Built-in Music ✔
- WIFI ✔
The only reason the Lollipop baby monitor wasn’t our pick is because it is phone dependent, which won’t suit everyone. Plus you have to buy two of them if you want to watch two rooms – which will get expensive!
It is a modern and sleek device in a baby blue colour that will complement your nursery furniture.
It is easy to use with the camera pairing to your smartphone via mobile app. Because of this you have an unlimited connection range. This is helpful for working parents who may want to keep an eye on things at home.
There is no need for a parent unit with the mobile app substituting for this entirely. You can setup notifications that are triggered by crying and movement detection which saves you having to constantly listen in. But if listening is your thing you can also switch to audio only mode.
This clever design provides three different ways to setup the camera:
- Use the provided wall mount
- Standup mode on any flat surface
- Wrap it around a cradle rung (or anything really)
This gives you ultimate flexibility for your camera positioning that you just can’t get with any other baby monitor on our list.
Most importantly for this list, you can add as many additional cameras as you like. There is a multi streaming feature that means you can easily use it to monitor your babies in two or more rooms.
Unfortunately, each additional camera is an extra purchase. The price point is similar to the Infant optics, and to get the best use for two rooms both require extra purchases.
So your decision will come down to how important the cloud video feed is to you…. And if you just want the coolest looking baby monitor on the market!
3. Babysense Video – Best Split Screen Baby Monitor
Quick Summary:
- 2x Camera included
- 4x Cameras supported
- 3.5” – Screen size
- 7 hours battery life
- Australian power plug
Extra Functionality:
- Remote Camera Control ✘
- Split Screen ✔
- 2 Way Talk ✔
- Night Vision/Infrared ✔
- Temperature Sensor ✔
- Built-in Music ✔
- WIFI ✘
If the split screen functionality is important to you then the Babysense may be more suitable for you than the Infant Optics.
You get a few more inclusions for the price (2 cameras included) which makes it great value. But it’s not quite as slick in it’s functionality which bumped it down on the list.
But let’s start with the positives. We mentioned the split screen, and you have the option to toggle between this and the scan cycle mode.
You have sound activated night vision mode, two-way audio, plus pan, tilt, and zoom functionality in the cameras.
Plus a temperature gauge with high and low alerts that will allow you to tend to your baby before they get unsettled. This can be a real time (and sleep) saver!
The range is also massive – you can venture about 275m from the cameras with the parent unit and still be connected. While this is impressive, are you ever going to do this unless you live on a farm?
The zoom is double the Infant Optics at 2x. But the display itself is a lot smaller (2.4”). You also cannot adjust the camera angles remotely and will have to physically move them.
The cables that connect the cameras can also be limiting in terms of their placement.
So as you can see it is a solid baby monitor that offers good value, and great functionality. But it just falls short in a couple of areas that can cause some frustration for the user.
4. Motorola MBP50-G2 Video – Best Baby Monitor with WIFI
Quick Summary:
- 2x Camera included
- 4x Cameras supported
- 5” – Screen size
- 5 hours battery life
- Power adapter required
Extra Functionality:
- Remote Camera Control ✔
- Split Screen ✔
- 2 Way Talk ✔
- Night Vision/Infrared ✔
- Temperature Sensor ✔
- Built-in Music ✔
- WIFI ✔
For working parents it can be nice to have your babies right at your fingertips all day at work. The Motorola offers just this through a direct WIFI connection and the option to view the baby video via the Hubble app on your mobile.
You can also have full control of the unit on a smartphone, just like you would if you had the parent unit in your hands; camera control, two-way talk, night vision, room temperature display, lullaby control, and cameras auto-scan. All able to be controlled remotely.
You do get two cameras with wide angle lenses that capture a large portion of the baby’s room (or two rooms) so you can see everything that is going on, not just in the cot or bed area.
On the parent unit itself you have a huge 5” colour LCD screen. You have full control over the pan, tilt and zoom which is nice and convenient.
For limitations, this is another baby monitor that doesn’t have split screen functionality, but does have that cycle mode.
The battery life is also a bit shorter at 5 hours.
The baby sensor will pick up sound, but not movement. So you will know when your baby cries and is distressed, but may not when she is just unsettled.
5. VTech BM5500 – Best Baby Monitor for Twins
Quick Summary:
- 1x Camera included
- 4x Cameras supported
- 5” – Screen size
- 2.5 hours active battery life
- Power adapter required
Extra Functionality:
- Remote Camera Control ✔
- Split Screen ✔
- 2 Way Talk ✔
- Night Vision/Infrared ✔
- Temperature Sensor ✔
- Built-in Music ✔
- WIFI ✘
You get a huge 5” LCD screen on the parent unit which is great when using the split screen mode when monitoring multiple rooms. This makes it great for twins when as you can monitor both at once without relying on a screen rotation that many other parent units are limited to.
Yes this is the same as the Motorola above. We have ranked this behind it based on the absence of a second camera included at the starter price. You will need to but this separately which adds an extra $120-$130 to your total cost.
Where the VTech excels is the flexibility to add up to four cameras. Once added you can watch them through split screen mode for simultaneous display, a patrol mode that cycles between them, or single cam view.
Aside from this, you get a very similar level of performance to the Motorola with many features being similar.
I would only recommend the Vtech BM5500 if you wanted four cameras, and the bigger parent unit screen. If you are flexible on this then the Infant Optics may be the better choice.
6. HelloBaby Video – Cheapest Baby Monitor
Quick Summary:
- 1x Camera included
- 4x Cameras supported
- 3.2” – Screen size
- 12 hours battery life
- Power adapter required
Extra Functionality:
- Remote Camera Control ✔
- Split Screen ✘
- 2 Way Talk ✔
- Night Vision/Infrared ✔
- Temperature Sensor ✔
- Built-in Music ✔
- WIFI ✘
If you are on a budget the HelloBaby is about half the price of the other baby monitors on our list and is also able to accommodate multiple cameras so you can monitor extra rooms.
The additional cameras also cost between 30% and 60% of what an extra Infant Optics or VTech camera will cost you.
Whenever you go for the budget option you introduce a higher risk of performance reliability being a factor. So if you can afford a better quality monitor then we encourage you to go for it. But, a budget video monitor is better than an audio only monitor in our opinion.
The features of the HelloBaby are comparable with other baby monitors on this list. The big issues are the battery life and general reliability.
Verdict
Given the complex combination of features to be assessed with each of these baby monitors we hope that you have been able to find what is most suitable to your needs and budget.
We thought the Infant Optics DXR-8 was the best baby monitor for multiple rooms, even if you had to buy additional cameras to do so. In fact, we prefer the flexibility of only buying what you need when you need it.
You get the most bang for your buck when you buy the best baby monitor unit you can afford upfront, and then add additional cameras if you need it.
If you have had twins and just want an all-inclusive package with two cameras then the Babysense or Motorola baby monitors will get you a good mix of cost vs performance.
The only other gotcha to be aware of is that Australia compatible power plug. But adapters are cheap and easy to come by these days so don’t let that put you off buying your preferred brand.
